In Class

I  will introduce the class web page, www.digTrinity.com where assignments will be posted.

We will get used to working with Flash on the Computer Lab computers.  Flash is the program we will work with for many projects.  We will introduce the first project, which is to design and create an online clock.

Each student will receive a USB flash drive with the Flash installation files on it.  The drive and the cover both will have your name imprinted on it.  This is yours to keep so that you can easily take files home to work on them.  For the first week, it will be used to help you install Flash on your home computer.

We will discuss what types of computers students have at home to make sure everyone has the capability of doing work at home.

Homework  

Please try this before the second class meeting:  Try to install Flash from the USB flash drive on your home computer.  Don’t worry if you have trouble with this, we will go over it in the second class.  It’s not required, but I think you will find it useful.  If you succeed, you can start playing with Flash.  You can also continue making the clock we will begin in the first class.

Installation:

• Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port of your PC.  This version will not work on a MAC..
• Windows will pop some messages as it prepares the flash drive.   When ready it will say something like “Found new hardware.  Your hardware is installed and ready to use.”
• Open the drive by double clicking on its icon.  Its icon should be visible in the myComputer folder, and should say something like: “USB20FD”.
• Double click on the text file labeled “installation key.txt”.  This is the serial number you will need to enter when installing. 
• Double click on the icon labeled Flash MX installer.exe
• Follow the installation procedure, inserting the installation key text (serial number) when asked. You can enter your name and Trinity as the organization.
• If you have problems, write them down.  We will go over them in the next class.  Remember that home installation is optional.
