Make Your Own Clock 2
Stephen Lewis
Trinity School
In this lesson you make additional online clocks using a variety of Flash drawing tools. We will publish student work online.
Summary:
Students will:
Start with myClock2.fla
Create at least five clocks in Flash using only one drawing tool per clock.
Use these tools: oval, rectangle, brush, pen, text (yes, I want one clock only using text). The pen is the hardest tool to understand, but it's really cool.
Make sure to use different fill colors and textures and the Paint Bucket Tool.
Make sure to open and use the Properties window, because there are additional controls there (open with the menu item Window/Properties and click on its top bar if it's closed).
Try these editing tools: Free Transform Tool to change shapes, and the Fill Transform Tool to change "gradient" fills (at the bottom of the color picker there are some fills that look like they have lights shining on them.)
Try using the black arrow and the white arrow tool on different drawing objects. The white arrow can be used to highlight and "pull" the control points that appear on some objects like lines. It's a cool stretching tool.
Save each of your clock files. Then click the File/Publish menu command. This will create another file by the same name with the extension .swf. This is the file you should email me. They MUST be named something like Bill.Clinton09MyClock2A, Bill.Clinton09MyClock2B, etc. but of course using YOUR name. Email your clock ".swf" files to Mr. Lewis.
Do your best to figure these tools out. We will go over things in class.
What this lesson teaches:
Using different tools in Flash to create drawings.
Confusing things:
Help! Under the Help menu Flash has lessons, tutorials and other ways of finding out how to use it. If you have problems understanding any of these tools or features, move on to the next, and bring it up in class.
Remember!: You MUST be editing a symbol to create the clock face or any of the hands using these tools. Do NOT draw on the main "stage" which is called "Scene 1". Remember that to be editing the clock face, you must have clicked on the ClockFaceSymbol icon in the library window. When you do, you will see the words "Scene1 clockFaceSymbol" at the top of the drawing window.
Properties Window. Sometimes the Properties window doesn’t show the right information even though you think have selected a graphic object (symbol, text box, etc.) in the Main window. This may be because a number of objects (symbols, text boxes, etc which show a blue rectangle when “selected) in the Main window are selected at the same time. You must click in a blank area of the Main window to unselect all the objects then re-select just the one you are interested in. Then its properties should be shown in the Properties window.
